Sterling Silver Bracelets

Sterling silver bracelets are very popular with both young and old alike. They are widely available in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles. Since they are made of silver as opposed to gold, they are much more affordable which makes them easier to obtain for many people. Due to this, we see lots of sterling silver jewelry being worn by young girls, tweens, and teenagers.

So what is sterling silver? It is a previous metal made out of the silver alloy. Silver in its pure form is much too soft to be made into jewelry or other objects that have the strength to hold up to daily or regular use. Silversmiths found by combining silver with other metals to strengthen it made it much more durable yet still kept it malleable enough to craft into jewelry or other precious objects. In order for an object to be considered sterling silver it has to be 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metal alloy such as copper, zinc, or platinum.

Sterling silver can be made into a variety of different types of bracelets. There are three main categories that these bracelets fall into which include bangles, cuffs, and link type bracelets. We will discuss the different types below.

Bangle bracelets are made of solid bands of sterling silver that are designed to slide over the hand and arm. They can be worn fitted snugly to the wrist area of the arm or loosely fitting in that same area. They can also be worn slid up the arm a bit and fit snugly approximately 1/3 up the forearm. Bangles range in size from 7 to 8 inches in diameter. They should not fit so loosely that they slide over the palm of the hand easily. Bangles can be dressed up or down and worn with a variety of clothing. They are great with a pair or jeans or can be paired with a black cocktail dress for the evening.

Cuff bracelets are designed similarly to the bangle, however they are not closed. They are designed to be worn fitted snugly around the arm. Care should be taken that the cuff is snug but does not pinch the arm when worn. Cuff bracelets just scream to be worn with funky or eclectic clothing and those new boots that are coming out this winter! Silver cuffs look great with black, charcoal grays, taupe, winter white, and platinum. Mix and match cuffs and bangles for a one of a kind look!

Link bracelets come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They usually range in size from 7 to 9 inches in length. Link bracelets are designed to look like small link chains that fit around the wrist of the arm. These bracelets are made to be worn loosely around the wrist. They can be very delicate or think and chunky in the linkage. Dependant on how the bracelet is made, they can be worn with a wide variety of clothing. Delicate links can be worn with beautiful dresses or other delicate style clothing. Heavier chunky links can be worn with those winter layers that we all love, those long sweaters and leggings and thigh high boots!

Link bracelets can even have lovely little charms that hang from them. The age old charm bracelet is making a come back! Young girls and teenagers are starting to add funky, cool charms to their link bracelets to make them their own. There are some really cool charms that are available for just about any interest that anyone can have. There are best friend charms and those pesky BFF charms as well as the two pieces of the heart that fit together. These are really popular right now for charm bracelets with young girls and teenagers alike.
